Comparing boat sizes

Sailing on a boat is a great way to travel, and for certain destinations it is the only way to go. Boats are also essential for fishing if you plan to catch any decent amount of fishes.

List of Boats

The Shipwright NPC can sell you a Small Boat deed. The carpenter can also craft the boats on the following list, though it requires a lot of resources.

List of available boats
  • Small Boat
  • Small Dragonboat
  • Medium Boat
  • Medium Dragonboat
  • Large Boat
  • Large Dragonboat

Using a Boat

Things to know about boats
  • The boat is blessed, so you won't loose it from your main backpack upon death.
  • The tiller man can resurrect you if you stand close to him in war mode.
    • The advantage of bigger boats, is the tiller man can resurrect quicker
  • There is a onboard container which can be locked/unlocked with the key you get.
  • To enter the boat, you need to tell your tiller man to extend the planks

Sailing

You use a number of commands to give the tiller man orders. He will take you where you wish to go, and serves you loyally. You can also sail at various speeds, or simply drift calmly around at sea.

The Planks

To get onto the boat, you need to use the gangplanks.

  • Owner can get on by double-clicking the part of the boat, where the planks extend, to temporarily extend the planks.
  • To allow other people onboard, the owner must tell the tiller man to "extend planks"
Then tell the tiller man to "retract planks" to pull the planks back in.
  • Walking off the gangplank when docked near land, the character will "teleport" to the nearest spot on land.
But keep in mind, after leaving the boat, you cannot always see the planks in order to enter the boat again. So be careful when choosing a spot to dock the boat, such as up against steep cliffs.

Tiller man

Fishes in a open hatch

The tiller man takes care of your boat, and listens to everything you have to say.

  • He moves the boat according to your orders
  • He can resurrect you if you are in warmode, but isn't as quick as a healer of course.
  • He can clear the deck of monsters if you died.
  • He can sweep the deck of items, including corpses.
  • He can troll for sea monsters, if you wish to hunt some big game.

The Hatch

When you place a boat on water, you will receive a rusty key in your inventory. It will unlock the onboard container, the hatch, which is a very handy place to put those heavy fishes. You should use the hatch instead of a pack-animal, since if you happen to die to a sea monster, then it will also kill the pet.

Crafting Boats

You can buy the smallest standard boat from the Shipwright NPC vendor for 125.000 gold, but any of the other sizes and shapes need to be crafted by a carpenter.

  • Even if you can sell a boat to a vendor, it is hardly a profitable endeavor.
  • There is no functional difference between normal boats and dragonboats.
