Keys are important for locking/unlocking containers and homes.
Keys
- Tinkers can make keys from any type of ore, which controls their color and name.
- Keys made of iron will be named iron key for example
- There is no way to know what key belongs to what lock
- Keys can be duplicated (so keep your keys safe)
- Keys can be stored on a key-ring
Boat Keys
When you place a boat onto water, you will find a rusty key in your inventory. It unlocks the onboard container, the hatch
- The rusty key disappears when you drydock your boat.
House Keys
When you buy a house, you get a gold key. And even if you make someone a "friend of the house", they will need their own key if you expect them to be able to enter and re-lock the doors on their own.
- You do not want to have your doors unlocked, else anybody can walk into the house
- Key needs to be in your inventory to allow you to interact with locked doors
- Toggling the lock/unlock, you need to double-click the house-key and use on the door.
- You can change the locks on your house, but you need to have a new key available.
- This saves you when you lock yourself out of the house
Containers
- You can make a lock and put it onto wooden or metal chests, using a rekey kit to assign a key to the lock
- You double-click the key, and use on the container to lock/unlock it
Key Ring
There is an item called a 'key ring, which allows you to store multiple keys in one item.
- Double-click the key ring and choose what key to put on it.
- You can disassemble the key ring by using it on itself.
